Whereto stay?

I%26#39;m looking for recommendation on where to stay in Albuquerque. I read that the the top rated hotels here are not in a safe area. Which area is the safest to stay in? is the old city area safe?

Thank You

Yael

Whereto stay?

The Old Town area is just fine, really not a huge crime ridden area. Also north along I25 is ok as is near the airport. Albuquerque is not a large city compared to NY. When are you coming to visit? What do you want to do while here?

Whereto stay?

In addition to Old Town and I-25 north of I-40, there%26#39;s also the ABQ Uptown area...several good hotels there, chain and non-chain restaurants, shopping, etc.

The areas to avoid , IMO, would be Central Ave. to the east and west ( really, all of Central except very close to Old Town and downtown ), the hotels at I-40 and Coors ( area with a lot of truckers, transients, outside entrances to rooms ), the hotels near Menaul and I-40 ( some are okay but quite a bit of homeless/drug activity in that area ) and the Hotel Circle area at roughly I-40 and Eubank ( older properties )

Again, knowing how long you are planning on staying and the purpose of your visit ( passing through, attending meetings/conference, tourist, family with kids ) would help narrow it down, perhaps to some specific properties.

Our historic Old Town area is the #1 tourist attraction in Albuquerque (when the balloon fiesta isn%26#39;t in progress). In, or adjoining the historic Old Town area, are museums relating to: Natural History %26amp; Science; Albuquerque/New Mexico History %26amp; Art; Atomic Energy; the Expo Science Museum (hands on, especially for children); and small museums pertaining to Rattlesnakes, and Turquoise.

The two best hotels near Old Town, are the Hotel Albuquerque at Old Town, and the Best Western Rio Grande, both just south of I-40 on Rio Grande Blvd., and only a short, block or two walk, from Old Town, and the museums.

The major chain hotels around the Albuquerque International Sunport are usually highly rated, but except for the convenience of the airport, they are rather remote from the top tourist sites.

Here are reviews of Albuquerque hotels from other contributors to T/A. You should be able to gain a good knowledge of Albuquerque hotels by sifting through them.

Thank you for your interest in Albuquerque, and please let us know how we may help you in any way, while you are planning your trip. P.S. Albuquerque has many, many transplanted New Yorkers living here.

I must emphatically disagree with the post stating that the hotels around I-40 and Menaul are in a bad area. The Albuquerque Hilton, LaQuinta, MCM Elegante, ClubHouse Inn are all in this area, and are very nice and very safe. I know because I work at one of them. The homeless situation in the area is really not bad. Once in awhile you might see them walking down Menaul, or catching a bus, but the major areas where they congregate are closer to downtown. Beleive me, you will be as safe in this area as anywhere in town, except Central Ave East and West.

Hubby and I stay at the Sandia Resort %26amp; Casino periodically, and we really like it. Big bathrooms and nice furnishings, pretty good food, great views, wonderful staff.
