New plans for our roadtrip

We have decided to do a one way with Cruise America to drop off one of there RV%26#39;s. We are starting in Oakland and ending in Cincinnati. wooohoooo! We are timing it so we can still stop and enjoy the balloon fiesta for a few days. Here%26#39;s the rough draft:

Day 1: Leave Oakland by noon after getting RV and shopping. Drive as far as we want...probably to Majave somewhere.

Day 2: Drive to Sedona area

Day 3: Check out the petrified forest and get up to Canyon de Chelly. Stay somewhere up there.

Day 4 Get into Ojo Caliente for the night.

Day 5 Go to Santa fe for the day and arrive at the balloon fiesta for 3 nights

Day 8, 9, 10 head out to Indiana to stay with family for a week

Day 17 drop off RV in Cinci

watchya think?

oh yeah...one more thing.

We have the presidential camping spot reserved at the fiesta. Is it worth it, or am I just paying for sewer hookups?

New plans for our roadtrip

Your distances seem reasonable. I would just point out that accomodations are very few in Chinle (Canyon de Chelly). If you are going to stay there, I would make your reservations very early. If you%26#39;re leaving from Sedona, I think you could make Farmington for the night. Ojo Caliente has the expensive spa, and one other ';iffy'; motel that I can remember. There may be others, but Ojo Caliente is a very small town. You might want to stay overnight in Espanola, and it doesn%26#39;t have that many choices either.

Three nights/mornings at the balloon fiesta should ';almost'; guarantee you get to see some events. Mother Nature is always fickle for at least a couple days each year, causing the events for a day to be cancelled.

IMHO, the President%26#39;s camping area is worth it. There is so much walking to do ';at'; the fiesta, the closer you can park to the field the better. FYI: The balloon park is the equivalent of 50 American football fields...all grass!

Sounds ideal to me. The pluses of RV%26#39;ing across the country, without having to buy one. Enjoy!

Well, duh. My comments on Chinle, and Ojo Caliente totally forgot you had an RV. I don%26#39;t know about camping sites around either, but there may be some.

At both though, just ';know'; where you are going to camp, and have reservations. I wish I could delete my response, but I can%26#39;t. Just too long a day! :-)

The campground at Canyon de Chelly is very nice, no hookups but a nice spot. I don%26#39;t think there are any RV parks up there. There is a very nice KOA Kampground in Holbrook AZ. You may want to consider that. Nice spots and close to town. Also not sure if Ojo Caliente has hookups for RVs.

If you want a nice place to camp in Santa Fe, check out Rancheros de Santa Fe RV park. About 15 minutes east of town, but very nice!

Thank you for your input. Ojo Caliente has an RV area on property. We are going to do the baths and get massages and stay there. Any other hot springs in the area that might be better?

Not quite the same as Hawaii, but New Mexico%26#39;s ancient, volcanic history, has produced hot springs in abundance. The ';Top 20,'; including Ojo Caliente.
