I have flights booked for a 9 night stay, but not sure what to do in addition to Santa Fe. Planned on a few nights in Taos, but now I%26#39;m hearing a night is enough. I%26#39;m flying in and out of ABQ.
Any other suggestions for an avid photographer who will have a rental car? Is there a great/moderate place to stay near Bandelier?
Much more interested in culture, art and local food than active things like hiking/mountain biking.
I hope this isnt the equivalent of our typical ';what should I do in NYC?'; question! I did search before posting!
Santa Fe and where else?
There%26#39;s plenty to see and do in and around Albuquerque, including the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center, Sandia Crest and the Tramway, and more. I%26#39;ll leave it to the ABQ destination experts to fill in, but you should not overlook the town.
Santa Fe and where else?
thanks Mitch! I didnt get to do any Albuquerque research yet and was wondering....
There are some great self-guided tours suggested from Albuquerque at itsatrip.org/activities/…sandia - there%26#39;s lots more info there. Of course, Albuquerque is famous for it%26#39;s balloons so if you get a chance to photograph them, it is always gorgeous. And be sure to know the official state question - ';Red or Green'; which means do you want red chili or green chili on your food (hint - be sure to ask which is the hottest since color doesn%26#39;t always indicate heat). Oh, how I miss the stuffed sopapillas smothered in green chili. Get one if you can - they are soooo good.
In 9 days you can see and do a lot. You can easily fill those days between Albuquerque, Santa Fe and Taos. There are so many great local restaurants. Visit www.santafe.org , www.itsatrip.org for ideas. My current favorites in Santa Fe Tomasitas, The Shed, Del Charro, Santa Fe Bar and Grill, Josh%26#39;s BBQ, Tia Sophia%26#39;s and Railyard
Day 1 arrive Albuquerque. Stay near Old Town. Visit a number of the local museums.
Day 2 Head out to Acoma Pueblo for a tour. Also a visit to Petroglyph National Monument.
Day 3 More in Abq, see any of the museums not seen previously, possibly Sandia Tram and Coronado State Monument.
Day 4 Drive up to Santa Fe. Stay near the Plaza. Visit museums, art galleries, Canyon Road, the cathedral, Loretto Chapel. (our state museums are closed on Mondays)
Day 5 Drive to Bandelier Nat Mon and Los Alamos. I think there are a few hotels up there, but it is not that far from Santa Fe. Maybe have lunch/dinner at Gabriel%26#39;s north of Santa Fe.
Day 6 Santa Fe area. Maybe drive up in the mountains, visit Pecos Nat Mon.
Day 7 Drive to Taos via the High Road. Stop in Chimayo on the way. See Taos Pueblo, the plaza, etc. Stay in Taos
Day 8 Visit Taos again. I would consider another night up there, just for the experience. Drive out to see the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge, Martinez Hacienda.
Day 9 Head back to either Santa Fe or Albuquerque for the night.
I am saving all of your info now! thank you so much. Really looking forward to the cuisine!
Don%26#39;t forget Abiquiui, Ghost Ranch. Beautiful scenery.
Personally I find Taos a bore, but Taos Pueblo is interesting.
Santa Fe museums (Museum Hill, Fine Arts) are good, and rather engaging.
What about a few spa visits, 10000 Waves, Jemez Springs/Giggling Lizard Springs (nice private tub), Ojo Caliente.
Tamaya is nice, too.
Maybe a nice hike?
Always a lot to do.
Hi- taken alot of pictures in northern NM, favorite places: Acoma Pueblo (incredible), Sandia Crest, Old town Albuquerque, Jemez Trail, especially the Valle Caldera, Madrid/Turquoise Trail, Pecos area and the Monument, Bandelier Monument, Chimayo, Abiquiu, Santa Fe Plaza, Enchanted Circle from Taos up to Red River. Hwy. 104 from Las Vegas to Tucumcari.
Have a great trip!
With nine days you could also make a loop to the south to see Carlsbad Caverns and White Sands. Great photo ops there.
And okay, I can%26#39;t resist, for pop culture, how about a stop at the Alien Museum in Roswell? ;)
You all are wonderful! I finally had the time to fully research this weekend and came up with this...
Turquoise Trail to Santa Fe
Old Town Santa Fe, Farmer%26#39;s Market, Canyon Road
Bandelier and area
Abiquiu (I have a reservation for the O%26#39;Keefe house and studio) and Ojo Caliente
Museum Hill
the High Road to Taos with multiple stops
Taos pueblo, the museum with the woman%26#39;s name that I am forgetting now, maybe the Martinez and other house
(and, I really want to see those Earthships).
back to Albuquerque for Petroglyph National Monument and Acoma pueblo and last minute shopping.
