Conflicted on where to stay Cedar Crest or Bernalillo

My daughter and I are coming out to the area to check out where she would like to relocate to in the Spring.

We want to look in the Albuquerque / Santa Fe area. I have found two B %26amp; B which seem very accomodating but I%26#39;m not sure where we should stay?

Can you help me decide? We have never been to New Mexico so I am not real familiar with the area.

Do we stay in Cedar Crest or Bernalillo? Or do we split our stay between the two places?

Thanks as always for all you helpful information and assistance.

Conflicted on where to stay Cedar Crest or Bernalillo

Although parts of the Cedar Crest area are really beautiful, the Bernalillo location seems more suited to your potential back and forth to Santa Fe. With Cedar Crest, if you did the highway 25 route to Santa Fe, it means going through ABQ, or taking the back road ( which is a pretty drive ) which takes longer to get to SF. Depending on when you are coming in the Spring, there is still snow potential which could make that trip take longer. Bernalillo is a small town just north of ABQ and about 40 minutes from Santa Fe. It has many more restaurants than the Cedar Crest area ( make sure you try the newly opened Flying Star ), it%26#39;s a quick hop west to Rio Rancho and additional restaurants and stores, it%26#39;s close to Santa Ana Star Casino if you felt like visiting that one evening, close to the Hyatt Tamaya which has good restaurants, spa services, etc. and offers you the option of taking the RailRunner train to SF if the public transport option would work for you. My parents live in Bernalillo so I%26#39;m quite familiar with it if you have any other questions.

Cedar Crest is really pretty, but you%26#39;ll have more lodging choices in Bernalillo (I know you%26#39;ve found places, but, just in case...). There%26#39;s also a RailRunner station in Bernalillo, as well as just north of the town at US 550, that you can get you (cheaply) to both Santa Fe and Albuqeruque.

If it was me, I would spend a few nights in Santa Fe and a few nights in the Albuquerque area. That way you can get a mini feel for the two cities. Staying in Bernalillo or Cedar Crest will not give you a feel of either city. Another place to consider relocating and visiting is Las Cruces.

Okay I have done a bit more research and I think CasaAzul%26#39;s idea is probably best so I have decided to stay in Santa Fe for 3 nights then Albuquerque for 2 with hoping to take a side trip to Taos.

Now my next question - Is there normally a lot of snow mid March? I was going to rent a non-SUV vehicle but if there is a chance of snow perhaps I will rent ans suv with 4 whl drive.

Thanks for all your assistance - we are looking forward to checking out your area of our country. Each state seems to be unique unto itself. What a beautiful country we we have.

Yes, we can get snow in Santa Fe in mid March. We are at 7000%26#39;. Ski season usually goes until April, so it is possible that there will be snow. One never knows how the weather will be!

Enjoy your visit. If you are used to driving on snow, a front wheel drive should be just fine.
