Hi I am staying for 4 nights total in ABQ. I am on a tight budget since we are traveling all around the Southwest for several weeks.
I booked the EconoLodge in Old Town. Does anyone have an experience with that hotel. It is me and my husband traveling with kids (ages 6 %26amp; 8).
Is it is a safe areas? It is clean?
Econo Lodge Old Town AlbuquerqueThe Econo Lodge Old Town has recently undergone a restoration. It is located about 5 football fields west of the Central (Old Route 66), and Rio Grande Blvd. intersection. Rio Grande Blvd. is the exit from I-40 to Old Town.
The ELOT is convenient to the Aquarium, and Botanical Gardens/Zoo, as well as Old Town, and several diverse museums which are on the NE side of Old Town along Mountain Road. Your children may be interested in the Expo Museum, a hands-on, Science Museum for children, and next door, the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science (dinosaurs, etc.) It also has a wrap-around IMAX theater and planaterium. The Albuquerque Museum provides an excellent insight into the history of the area.
The immediate area around the motel is pretty safe, especially during the day. You may not want to be walking along Central Ave. after dark, although the ';bad'; areas of Central are farther to the west, and then again on the southeast side of the city.
Since you are on a budget, I might suggest the Casa Grande Restaurant, just west of the motel, and on the south side of Central. They serve both American and ';New'; Mexican food, and have been around a long while as a neighborhood ';Family Restaurant.';
Here are reviews from past visitors to the Econo Lodge Old Town on TripAdvisor.com...their ratings seem pretty positive.
