Santa Fe Fiesta 1st week of September??????

We are planning a trip to Sant Fe the first week of September 2009, the week just before Labor Day. We understand there is some type of Fiesta that goes on that week. This will be our first time to Santa Fe and we are concerned about what goes on during this week? If it is really crowded and noisy and a person cannot enjoy the city should we change our travel dates. Or would we find it enjoyable and fun, we are in our early 60%26#39;S and like culture and fun however we are not into Mardi Gras noisy party situations.

Thanks Lary

Santa Fe Fiesta 1st week of September??????

Labor Day weekend is really bad as it%26#39;s typically when Zozobra occurs and is a really heavy travel time for Santa Fe. The week before won%26#39;t be quite as bad, but it%26#39;s still considered summer, which is always pretty crowded there.

If you%26#39;re worried about noise then you can always stay a bit more away from the plaza. Santa Fe has some really nice, quiet neighborhoods.

Santa Fe Fiesta 1st week of September??????

Fiestas de Santa Fe and the burning of Zozobra is the 2nd week in September, after Labor Day weekend. Zozobra is Thursday Sept 10 with other events the next few days. Parades are on Saturday and Sunday in and around the Plaza area and it is very busy. Fun parades though, I have walked with my son%26#39;s school a few times in the Pet Parade! Seems the schedule for the Fiestas events has not been posted. Check http://www.santafefiesta.org/

The burning of Zozobra is an interesting event, but very busy, loud and full of wild locals!! We never go as parking is horrible and crowds can be unruly. This is only on a Thursday night. It is not a Mardi Gras type party, drinking is not allowed on at the event or on the streets. Our police do a great job of keeping these events safe and fun for families.

On Labor Day weekend is an large art show in and around the Plaza and there are crowds, but there are plenty of places to go without crowds.

If you are flexible about when you go to SF, recommend going from the end of Sept. thru Oct. The weather is usually beautiful, not too hot or too cold, the landscape is in full color and the crowds are not as bad as in the summer (except for the week of Balloon Fiesta). There are still lots of things to do as well. It%26#39;s our favorite time of the year to visit NM.

Have a great trip, maybe we%26#39;ll see you there!
