About coming to Balloon Fiesta from Bernalillo

We will be for first time at Balloon Fiesta this fall. Our hotel is at Bernalillo about 11 miles north of the Balloon Fiesta Park.

We will assist at the mass ascension on the first day, 10/4/2008. A what time should we leave the hotel to be on the site let%26#39;s say at least 30 minutes before first balloons ascension?

About coming to Balloon Fiesta from Bernalillo

On a normal day the ride from Bernalillo to Balloon Fiesta Park would be about 20 minutes. I suggest taking the old hwy (313) from Bernalillo and avoid the crowds on the interstate. Take 313 south from Bernalillo to Alameda nad turn east (left) and follow signs to the field. This is definitely the road less traveled and should take about 30 to 45 minutes.

Google maps can help.

If you are crewing (assisting) for a balloon, be sure to get the info from your pilot about which gate to enter and exactly how to get there. There are different entrances for crew, but you must have a pass, and your pilot should get one to you.

Thank you SifromABQ for your help.

Many other Tripadvisors on that forum suggested to me to visit Santa Fe between morning and evening sessions.

Is there less traffic coming from Santa Fe before night session or is it still recommended to take highway 313 again? Regards. Gaetan

Personally, I would still use 313. As you get closer to Fiesta on the freeway, it will still be crowded, but not as bad as in the a.m.

Thanks a lot, SF. I%26#39;ve taken note of that. Gaetan

We made the journey in October as scheduled. The alternative road was a good idea. We assisted to the first massive ascension on the first day of the fiesta. As there was risk of showers at the evening we left the site just on time. Nightglow was canceled. We went to Santa Fe in the afternoon, it was great. Here is some pictures from Albuquerque and Santa Fe from my personal blog.

Thanks again for the information.

Hola Gaetan!

Thanks for posting the pictures--they%26#39;re beautiful. So glad you got to see the best of the balloons. Living in Abq, (taking balloons for granted) I sometimes forget how spectacular they can be. Great shots!

Buena suerte,

Lisa

Hi Lisa,

You%26#39;re welcome! I must tell you that I%26#39;m in the same situation than you. My city is host of a similar event in August. Although it%26#39;s limited to 125 balloons, it%26#39;s the biggest balloon fiesta in Canada. It has two ascensions, at the morning and at evening. The musical part of the fiesta is quite big with many shows each night and sometimes with international artists.

I enjoyed very much my stay in Albuquerque and to have the opportunity to see the most spectacular ballon ascension in the world.

Regards. Gaetan
