Hi All,
We are starting a 16 day tour through Southwest (ABQ to Sedona, Grand Canyon, Zion, Bryce, Moab, Monument Valley, Mesa Verde, Durango, etc.. back to ABQ)
We will spend 3 nights at the end of the trip exploring Albuquerque, Santa Fe, maybe Taos.
Traveling around is me, my husband and our two boys (ages 8 and 6). Everyone we go I am trying to finding unique and different things to see and do so that the kids stay excited and interested. Especially since we have so many miles to cover in a short time.
I am looking for any suggestions on the best things to do in that area. I was considering things such as Acoma, Taos Pueblo, rafting, Cultural Center (dances), Bandelier, Old Town, Ghost Tour, etc....
Our time will be 3 nights but probably only 2 full days. What should I make sure we do?
Albuquerque in April with KidsThat%26#39;s a great question, vbreb.
First, best wishes for a great trip. You%26#39;ve planned an excellent itinerary! We love Sedona and Mesa Verde, in particular.
While in Albuquerque, my best advice would be to take the kids to the Albuquerque Biological Park. There%26#39;s a zoo, an aquarium, and botanic gardens. Lots to look at, very hands-on and kid-focused. Best done on a sunny day.
You could swing through Old Town in the same day because they are so close together. Maybe even fit in a trip to a museum. The NM Museum of Natural History has lots of dinosaur exhibits that young boys are usually partial to.
Our minor-league baseball team begins their season in April. Google ';Albuquerque Isotopes'; %26amp; see if your schedules coincide. Beautiful field, lots of inflatables and stuff for the kids, and five dollar tickets for grass seating (last year%26#39;s price, anyway!)
Rafting is an all-day deal, generally speaking. I am not sure if you%26#39;d want to do it during April, as I think that is the time that the water runs the fastest %26amp; is the most dangerous. Forum: anybody else have more information about that?
I hope those are good suggestions for your time here in Abq.
Best wishes for a great vacation!

Thanks for the info. We are looking forward to it.
Do you know if the Econo Lodge near old town is in a good neighborhood?
It%26#39;s not a particularly scenic part of Central, but I%26#39;ve never had any trouble with it. I was recently stranded at the aquarium and had to walk back to the zoo, which took me right next to the EconoLodge, and I never felt unsafe. (I gave up at the McD%26#39;s %26amp; called hubby for a ride, LOL!) I have seen some interesting characters sitting at the bus stop, but no one I thought was particularly dangerous.
I go to the Monte Carlo restaurant near there, the car wash, and the albuquerque little theater (ALT). You are very near some fancy neighborhoods on one side and some with mobile homes on the other. It%26#39;s kind of hard to categorize. Try searching this topic in the forum search. I recall some other topics about it.
How %26#39;bout some other opinions, forum?
A couple of other ideas that are popular with kids in the old town area are the Explora museum (www.explora.us), which is right next to the Natural History Museum, and also the Rattlesnake Museum (www.rattlesnakes.com), right in Old Town itself.
If you have time, I%26#39;d recommend taking the Sandia Peak Tram to the crest during the daytime - it%26#39;s well worth the ride and if the weather is nice you could take a hike at the top.
I agree with the previous comments on the Econo Lodge in Old Town. I lived in that area for eight years - never felt uncomfortable walking around that area during the day. After dark, Old Town itself and Rio Grande Blvd are fine but you might not feel comfortable walking along Central.
Sounds like a great tour, outfitters on whitewater rivers rarely allow children under 11 or 12, certainly 8 would be the youngest. However, there is a scenic and fun float trip on the Colorado River near Page, that runs in April and will take children that young. It starts at the base of Glen Canyon Dam and page is centrally located to the areas you plan on touring. See http://www.raftthecanyon.com/
I am going to researching the rafting. Thx for the info
