Kinda a weird question, but I was curious, is it true that there are some palm trees growing in Albuquerque? I read online that there are a few in the city, but that they%26#39;re pretty rare, don%26#39;t really grow very well and aren%26#39;t in the best health. I%26#39;m planning a road trip from Denver to ABQ this fall and didn%26#39;t realize that I%26#39;m living only one state away from palm trees! How cool is that? Anyway, I was wondering if anybody knew of some good places or streets in ABQ where I could check out some palms. Thanks for any info! Chris
Palm trees in Albuquerque?
I recall that there used to be one or two out in the parking lot of some nightclub or other, but you%26#39;re right about them being puny and ragged. The winters in ABQ are a bit too cold to really support healthy growth. Now Tucson, on the other hand, has plenty of them and they do pretty well; on my last trip there, I even saw some date palms bearing fruit.
Palm trees in Albuquerque?
Many people try to plant palms in their gardens and there are a few varieties that will grow here. You%26#39;d pretty much have to just drive through neighborhoods to see them. The varieties that grow here are pretty small so I don%26#39;t think they%26#39;d be that impressive. The ones I%26#39;ve seen resemble a yucca and those are more common here, so unless you stopped the car and had a good look, you might miss the palms.
If you are thinking of ';tropical'; palm trees, very tall with coconuts etc... not in Albuquerque. Head to Phoenix, Tucson in AZ for those.
Just got back from a road trip from Pueblo, Colorado to Albuquerque - to Tucson - to Laughlin, NV and back. I first noticed palm trees at Truth or Consequences.

Thanks everyone for your inputs and suggestions. Really looking forward to our road trip this fall to Albuquerque. We%26#39;ll also be stopping in Santa Fe, and we can%26#39;t wait to check out the great state of New Mexico!
