Late March in Southern NM?

Thinking of NM for spring break. Love Birding, hiking, etc. Thinking of staying in Southern NM to get some heat (we%26#39;re from Oregon). Loved the look of Casitas de Gila but they are booked :0( Anyone got any other suggestions for good places to stay that have a kitchen or kitchenette? Birding recommendations also welcome!

The Bear Mountain Lodge might appeal to you.

There are many interesting places in the Silver City area for hiking, birdwatching, archeology, etc. I%26#39;ll let our resident Silver City expert, Mitch, fill in the particulars.

The Bear Mountain Lodge is a lovely property owned by the Nature Conservancy. It%26#39;s located about 3 miles from the center of Silver City. There are nature trails that begin literally right out the back door. The bad news is that they don%26#39;t have rooms with kitchenettes-- at least not that I recall. Read more about it at http://www.bearmountainlodge.com

Another place worth considering is the Bear Creek Cabins, located in Pinos Altos, about 7 miles north of Silver City. (Be careful not to confuse Bear Mountain with Bear Creek). The have individual 2-story cabins, many with kitchenettes. For more info, check http://www.bearcreekcabins.com

Both of these locations are at the high end of the price scale for our area-- but both are great places close to the natural beauty of the area. There are additional choices available; let me know if these aren%26#39;t what you%26#39;re looking for, and I%26#39;ll suggest others.

It may be a little early in the year, but you might see some hummingbirds. They%26#39;ll be here in April for sure!
