We just returned from Socorro. This time we stayed at Best Western Socorro, which is right next to the Holiday Inn Express. The rooms were VERY clean and beds comfortable. The rooms were smaller than those at HI Ex, and the beds weren%26#39;t as fancy. We actually thought the hotel was cleaner and quieter than HI Ex. They have outdoor corridors, but take small pets! Nice breakfast! McDonalds and Burger king are on either side and Sonic across the street.
Had dinner at Socorro Springs Restaurant/Brewpub which is less than a block from the hotel. Very busy but decent service. Food was awesome, hot, tasty and just what we wanted. I had buffalo burger, my husband asked for grilled salmon and kid had an alfredo pizza with shrimp. All great! Home brewed ginger ale was awesome and the pale ale was just what we needed!
If you are visiting Socorro, check out the Mineral Museum at New Mexico Tech, and incredible collection of rocks and minerals, most from New Mexico!!!
Great Socorro overnight!
It sounds like you had a great time CA! A second recommendation for the Socorro Springs Restaurant/Brewpub! We tried it last December, and our food was also excellent. Service was a little slow for us, but it was a Saturday night, so that was to be expected.
You didn%26#39;t mention Bosque del Apache Wildlife Refuge. Did you take it in? The birds should begin their return trips north pretty soon.
I haven%26#39;t checked out the Mineral Museum...a ';next time'; on the ';to do'; list. Thanks for sharing your experiences.
Great Socorro overnight!
Glad you had a good time.
I LOVE Socorro Springs. For me, that%26#39;s the main reason for stopping in town at all. Food%26#39;s good, but the beer is just awesome. Best IPA in the state, rivaling anything coming out of Colorado, and, when they have it, their porter is fantastic as well. I just wish they bottled. You could briefly get some of their beers at a little place in Silver City as well, but it closed.
Socorro%26#39;s one of those undiscovered gems. Kind of tough to find in New Mexico still. It%26#39;s also a great place to base yourself at for the semi-annual Trinity Site opening, as it%26#39;s actually closer to the gate than Alamogordo is.
We did not go to the wildlife refuge, we were in Socorro for a school activity for my son. Others from our group went there and there were still lots of cranes, eagles etc.
