This past Fall we had dinner at the Compound Restaurant at 653 Canyon Rd. (www.compoundrestaurant.com) and absolutely loved it--turned out to be our best overall dining experience while in Santa Fe. Excellent cuisine and great service. Located in an elegant adobe-style hacienda and set back from Canyon Rd., it has the feeling of a private estate. During mild weather they have patio dining, but the interior dining rooms are also beautiful, albeit somewhat austere. I think the Compound is everything you%26#39;re seeking: upscale fine dining in a sophisticated but very comfortable environment. Be sure to tell them the occasion and ask for a table in a private setting--we did that and the location was perfect. Gosh, just writing this makes me want to go back!

Forgot to say what we had (I always keep detailed notes!)

* Wild mushrooms and organic stoneground polenta, black truffle relish, shaved Parmesan, Tesuque arugula

* Halibut “Diane”, Dijon cognac cream chanterelles, Boulangerie potatoes with bacon and roasted onions

* Creamed spinach

* Coconut cream tart with meringue topping, hot buttered rum cider sauce and toasted almonds

Our wine was a very nice Joseph Druhan Burgundian-style Pinot (grapes from France and wine made in Oregon).

Now I REALLY want to go back!!

I would also look at Osteria de Assisi, Pranzo, Vannesie, Rio Chama, Bull Ring, Old House, Anasazi, Bistro 315, La Casa Sena.

I don%26#39;t know how I put that link to Mexican restaurants on my reply, I know these are not exactly what you are looking for. Sorry about that.

Hi, thanks for the name of the restaurant,,,I think we are going to make a reservation today,, Eileen,

My husband and I had one of the best meals of the year at Tulips Restaurant on Valentine%26#39;s evening. Wow - we were impressed!
