I%26#39;m sure there have been posts about this.. but I didn%26#39;t see them.
If I fly into Albuquerque...what do I have to do to get the train to Santa Fe?
And, coming back to the airport from Santa Fe... how does that work, please?
Don%26#39;t know what days I%26#39;ll be traveling yet, but did I see (on their website) that there are no trains on the weekend, or that they are often full?
Would I be better off renting a car, or are there still shuttles from the airport to S.F. and back?
Thank you in advance.

train to Santa Fe?
Hi Lynn,
I haven%26#39;t taken the train yet, but here%26#39;s their website so you can get some info to start with: www.nmrailrunner.com.
If you google ';shuttle to Santa Fe'; you%26#39;ll find many companies that provide transportation. That may be easier than using the train, because you%26#39;ll have to take either a bus or a taxi from the airport to the train station downtown.
Renting a car will provide you with much more freedom for sight seeing, and since things are pretty spread out around here, that may be a good way to go. Just depends on what you want to see while you%26#39;re here.
I hope you have a great visit, Lynn!

train to Santa Fe?
While the Railrunner shows great promise, they are still working some bugs out of the system.
I would strongly recommend you rent a car at the Albuquerque International Sunport, and take in our Old Town area here in Albuquerque. Also, along with Santa Fe, please include Taos %26amp; Taos Pueblo on your trip. The latter especially is one of Northern New Mexico%26#39;s ';must see'; sites.
They are only about 1 1/2 hours north of Santa Fe, via the ';Low Road'; along the Rio Grande River; or, 2 hours on the ';High Road'; through Spanish-era, adobe villages on the slopes of the Sangre de Christo Mountains, in between Santa Fe and Taos.
Enjoy your trip, and save the train ride for next time! :-)
From the Abq airport there is a shuttle bus to the Railrunner Station downtown. www.nmrailrunner.com/parking.asp
There are trains on Saturdays that were added right after the train service began.
Thanks for all the advice folks! (and so quickly, too! I love these forums)
I%26#39;m thinking of coming out to an Elderhostel about the Indian Market in Santa Fe. Program is all taken care of once I get to S.F. (have been there and to Albuquerque quite a few times in the past) so I was trying to avoid the expense of renting a car for the week, since I really won%26#39;t need it.
Sounds like I need to look into shuttles instead, maybe???
Again, thanks!

I would really consider the train option. During the summer, and especially during busy times, I am sure there will be extra trains in the schedule. If not, maybe shuttle one way and train the other.
Have fun planning!
Here is the website where you can find information about the new route from Albuquerque International to the train station downtown, and the ticket office for Railrunner.
Or...
Information on bus shuttles from Alb. Int. to Santa Fe. After reading your followup, it probably wouldn%26#39;t be worth it for you to rent a car, especially when you%26#39;ve seen much of Albuquerque and Santa Fe before.

Enjoy your visit to the ';City Different!';
It%26#39;s less of a battle to take Sandia Shuttle. They will also drop you off at your hotel and pick you up at the airport. www.sandiashuttle.com
