I am planning an afternoon in Albuquerque for my teenaged boy scout group. We%26#39;ll be there in late July, staying at the Best Western Rio Grande. I plan on feeding them lunch at Blake%26#39;s Lotta Burger, then heading down to Old Town for a stop at either the National Atomic Museum (if it%26#39;s in its new location) or the Rattlesnake Museum. We%26#39;ll have dinner in Old Town at Church Street. Any feedback on these plans--especially regarding the Atomic Museum versus the Rattlesnake Museum for a group of 14-17 year olds would be helpful. Any other suggestions? Thanks!
What to do with 5 hours %26amp; a teenaged scout group of 24?
Rattlesnake Museum by far! I would contact them in advance to let them know you have a large group.
Also the NM Natural History and Science museum is great.

I would put the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science first on my list. It is on Mountain Road, just east of the NE corner of Old Town. The Rattlesnake Museum is ';in'; Old Town. The NMMONH%26amp;S would take about an hour and a half, and the Rattlesnake Museum half an hour. This would leave you 3 hours in the Old Town shops, and for dinner.
If you are thinking of the Church Street Cafe, (more like an alley actually), I too would certainly let them know you have such a large group in advance! You%26#39;d probably be best off on their patio. Another alternative, would be the Little Anitas Restaurant, at the corner of Rio Grande Blvd./ Mountain Road (right between the RG-Best Western, and Old Town/Museums.)
Have a great trip! Let us know if we can help with any more particular information.
Agree with the suggestions above. The Atomic museum might be a little dry for this age group - I found it is pretty much focused on the history without a lot to really look at or do. Also check out Explora (http://www.explora.us/en/) which is right next to the Natural History Museum. It%26#39;s fun for all ages.
I would definitely second the recommendation of Little Anita%26#39;s for either lunch or dinner. I think it might be a better choice for a group too - they have a separate group room they can open and as far as service, are probably more accustomed to handling the numbers.
I agree with the other folks about the Atomic, much too dry in content. The Natural History Museum and the Rattlesnake museum are better choices--but the Rattlesnake will be close quarters. Very small. Explora is fun for all ages if they%26#39;re of a scientific frame of mind, and since the kids are older, they would enjoy the trapeze bike.
Since it%26#39;s summer and you%26#39;ll be close to Tingley Beach, that would be my first choice. There are paddleboats and bikes for rent. You can jump on the train and take a ride to the zoo, the botanic gardens or the aquarium.
I have to disagree with the Church Street cafe. As a local, I%26#39;ve just never cared for it, and the place might be too small for your group. Anita%26#39;s is the big OK. For real New Mexican food, try Monroe%26#39;s, which is just a little bit east on Lomas. Just let them know ahead that you%26#39;ll have such a big group.
The natural history museum is a great choice and they also have great imax style movies constantly showing. They also have a really nice planetarium. If you can pull off taking them there and the rattlesnake museum (they are walking distance to eachother) I%26#39;d do it! Blakes is a great place for the scouts they will love the burgers there. For church street I would suggest making a reservation. It may be cheaper to do lunch or breakfast at church street then do dinner at Blakes. Also being that you are hosting scouts....they might enjoy a ride on the tram and then they can take a hike once they reach the top of the mountain.
Being from San Diego, I%26#39;d probably give our little zoo and the river ';beach'; that is Tingley a pass.
Little Anita%26#39;s would be my choice, too. Reasonably priced, relatively mildly spiced, and a lot of choiced on the menu.
